Why did I start my baby on home cooked solid food.

It was very important to me to start Olivia on solid food cooked at home. It meant that I knew exactly what was being put in the food and therefore what she was getting to eat. The ingredients that went into the food were carefully selected by me, and the entire preparation, especially the cleanliness, was under my control.

I wanted to make sure my daughter was eating everything she needed for healthy development.

I was also worried about food allergies. I hear so much about allergic reactions and food intolerances, especially in young babies. My friends’ babies were introduced to several different foods, and only now they are growing out of it at 5 and 6 years old.

So I was worried about starting solid food with Oli after months of breastfeeding. I looked at the commercial products that made food in glass jars and small tins, and they all had some kind of additive. I guess they must have been sitting on the shelves for so long before being used. Also, I didn’t know if I was paying for water or solid food usually. Just how much fruit, vegetables or meat were in those products?

Call me paranoid, but I wanted to make sure my little one had the healthiest start. Over time I have become more relaxed, but at the beginning, the first month or two was very stressful, and I preferred to cook all the food myself.

Cooking for my beautiful child brings me great joy and is very rewarding. I feel that I am contributing greatly to the future health and well-being of my precious daughter.
