The Christmas Robin

Chicks are not born with vibrant red breast feathers. They shed their chick feathers to make room for the red flush on their breast.

Many robin chicks don’t get to show off their new red feathers by posing on top of snow-covered mailboxes or pine trees because more than half of the chicks die in their first year.

However, robins can live up to the ripe old age of 5 years, which is something to sing about.
