Teacup Persian Kittens – Setting the Record Straight
You may be wondering…What is a Persian Teacup kitten??
Breeders of Persian Teacup cats and kittens have different descriptive terms to identify the smaller lines they work within their litter.
In an effort to educate you about these pint-sized pixie Persians I have dedicated this page to clarifying exactly what Persian Tea Cup cats are and why they have acquired the term “teacup” over the years .
First, let me clarify…. “Teacup Persians” is a descriptive term, not a size category. So please, don’t buy into false advertising or unrealistic size expectations of what a full grown kitten will look like.
Many Persian breeders will use the term “teacup” as a marketing ploy to close sales when in reality it is the ONLY color category that has actually earned the “Teacup Title” the silver and gold Persian family .
I found this out the hard way years ago when I bought myself a Blue Eyed White “Persian Teacup”. He grew to a whopping 15 lbs and had to be put in a pet home because he was way too big to breed for my cats. I myself have been breeding White Persians for over 20 years I should have known better but I got the impression that he would be tiny, as the breeder said.
If someone claims to have white Persians Teacup, Himalayan Teacups or bi-colored teacups you can bank because they are not a reliable place to put your money.
So remember… Persians must display SILVER OR GOLD on their bodies to be classified as a teacup Persian.
Just to be clear, I’m not saying silver tabby or gold tabby is not small, silver or gold MUST be visually present on the cat to classify it as a “Teacup Cat” .
FACT: There is no such thing as a Himalayan teacup!!!
Although no breeder can guarantee the adult size of any color you can be sure that if you are buying a silver or gold, you are within the smallest body structures a cat can carry.
I find that gold Persians are usually smaller than silvers not by much but by some.
Regular sized Persians and Himalayans are usually very large, cobby and muscular.
Regular sized female Persians or Himalayans weigh around 7-9 lbs.
Regular sized male Persians or Himalayans weigh around 8-12 lbs.
Silver and Golden Persians are naturally smaller cats but are by no means grouped or classified into a “breed or size category” referred to simply as the smallest and most petite of the feline family Persian.
Silver and golden Persians typically produce females around 4-6 lbs and males around 6-7 lbs.
This is not a table of sizes but just a guide to keep in mind when considering a “Persian Teacup”.
The overall bone structure of the Silver and Golden Persians is usually smaller than your typical Persians or Himalayas… and Golden’s is best known for producing those small framed Persians.
The Teacup Persians are just as healthy, loving and stable as the regular size Persians that are just a smaller build.
The Tea Cup Persians (at least the ones produced here at our cat) are purebred and in no way cross with another breed in terms of shape/size. achieve a natural little cobby body.
Teacup Persians are usually higher in price, not so much because they are smaller in size but because their coat colors are the most expensive design categories.
The Silver and Gold Persians have long been known and referred to as the “Royals Royce” of the Persian world so you should expect higher price tags when shopping for a kitten. Persian teacup.
Teacup Persians have a very small color selection to choose from: Shaded Silver, Silver Chinchilla, Shaded Golden Chinchilla, Blue Silver Chinchilla.
ULTRA RARE Designer Tea Cup Colors: Blue Chinchilla Golden, Silver & White, Golden & White and Blue Chinchilla & White, Red Shell Cameo, Cream Shell Cameo.
Please note: As Silvers & Goldens (Teacups) are smaller and more delicate they should never be allowed to leave the breeder’s home until they are at least 12 weeks old!!
All ethical cat breeders enforce this adoption age limit on all Persian teacup kittens.
FYI – ALL Silvers and Goldens are born very dark and then lighten with age. They will have achieved their true coat and eye color by the time they are 2 years old. I hope I have clarified the “Teacup Persian Cats” and their smaller natural sizes on this page.
“Start with honesty to build trust” … that’s our philosophy.
So please remember that if you are looking for a smaller kitten, you may want a silver or golden Persian. However, it is important to remember…they are NOT “small cats”, they are just known for being the meanest and smallest of frame.
