Oh how many tired parents are out there who, like me, thought they had tried everything to get their baby to sleep and finally gave up without hope? If you’re like me, you’ve probably looked at tips and tricks for better baby sleep all over the internet. From going through this experience recently, let me give you some of the tips and suggestions that my wife and I have found most useful to allow us to get more sleep as well!
If you search online, you will find tons of “tips” on how to get your baby to sleep better. You may find things like:
1. Find out where the baby sleeps best.
2. Get baby used to different sleep associations.
3. Pay attention and learn when the child gets tired.
4. Set regular nap times and bedtimes.
5. Feed the child lots during the day.
6. Warm the child’s bed up.
7. Change the baby’s diaper and put him/her in comfortable clothes.
8. Take a child for a drive in the car.
9. Get yourself into PJ’s.
10. Music or sleep sounds for a baby.
11. Create a variety of bedtime rituals.
12. Use a regular bedtime ritual (think this goes against #11).
13. Put the baby in a crib and put your hands on it.
14. Play your own voice in the child’s room.
15. Leave one of Mummy’s nursing bags in the crib with him/her.
The list goes on and on…
With all these solutions, almost as many questions are left unanswered.
– How do you know which ones to try?
– How can you tell if it’s working or not?
-If it doesn’t work, how long should you keep trying before moving on to something else?
– What kind of combination of things should you do?
-What do you do when two websites tell you to do the exact opposite things?
-How much of this just depends on the child’s personality?
