Aspergers Temper Tantrums – 3 Tips on Stopping Aspergers Tantrums
Are you feeling tired from Aspergers Temper Tantrums child? Effective parenting, whether a child has asperger syndrome or not, is learning that you are in control, not the child. This is not a popularity contest. You are not there to wait on your child and give her every whim. Buying her every toy she wants isn’t going to make her happier than saying no. There is no easy way out of this parenting experience. Sometimes you just have to dig in and let the tantrum roar.
Temper tantrums and Asperger’s
A temper tantrum is very simple. A child does not get his own way and, as a grandmother would say, “plays fitness.” This is not to lighten the temper tantrum. They are no fun for anyone.
Tips to stop aspergers temper tantrums
1. Talk to your child
Asperger’s sufferers do not really know how to resolve when their behavior is inappropriate. Talk to your child about his problems when he is calm and relaxed. This may not happen until the child is seven or eight years old. Then, tell him that sometimes he does inappropriate things. Get him to talk to you about a sign you can give him to let him know when this happens.
When my son starts experiencing meltdowns, he and I have agreed that I can tell him by putting my hand on his shoulder and saying, “Please be quiet.” This works wonderfully for me but may not work for others. So, you have to learn by trial and error.
2. Be Patient
All you can do is be patient with your child while he is having meltdowns, even though they are emotionally exhausting for you and him. Never punish him for having a meltdown.
3. Asperger’s children do not like surprises and some do not like to be touched.
Never rush to your child and give him a hug. If you want to kiss him, tell him exactly what you’re going to do. A surprise hook can send him into an even worse meltdown than he already is.
In conclusion about aspergers temper tantrums:
If you feel like you’ve been treated to a tantrum, you’re right. You are. A tantrum is just a power play by a person who is not mature enough to play a subtle game of internal politics.
