Dyslexia – How to Recognize Dyslexia in Children

Momee and dadee deer

to David’s sun

David is not a dunce. In fact, according to the assessments of a few professionals, it is rather intelligent. But he certainly has a problem, and he shares his problem with millions of other children and adults. David is dyslexic.

The word “dyslexia” was introduced in 1884 by the German ophthalmologist, R. Berlin. ee was created from the Greek words “dys” meaning sick or difficult and “lexis” meaning word, and used ee to describe a specific disturbance in reading without pathological conditions in the visual organs. In a later publication, in 1887, Berlin said that dyslexia, “assumed to be right-handed,” is caused by a cerebral lesion on the left side. He spoke of “word blindness” and detailed his observations with six patients with brain lesions who had full control of verbal communication but lost the ability to read.

In the century to continue the narrow definition Berlin would be linked to the term dyslexia expanding. Today the word dyslexia is often used to refer to a “normal” child — or adult — who appears much brighter than his reading and writing performance suggests. Although the term is mostly used to describe a severe reading difficulty, there has been little agreement in the literature or in practice regarding the definition of severe impairment or the specific defining characteristics of it. distinguishes dyslexia from other reading difficulties. Instead of getting involved in the conflict of interpretation, one could simply use the “signs” below as an indication that a child has a reading problem and therefore needs help.

INTERPRETATION COMMUNICATION

There can be multiple forms of direction, from not knowing which is left and right to not being able to read a map correctly, says Dr. Beve Hornsby in her book “Overcoming Dyslexia.” A child should know his left and right hand by the age of five, and be able to distinguish someone else by the age of seven. Directional confusion affects other concepts such as up and down, top and bottom, compass directions, keeping your place when playing games, being able to copy the moves of the gym teacher when it against you, and so on. Up to eight out of ten severely dyslexic children have directional confusion. The percentage is lower for those with mild conditions, she says.

Directional confusion is the reason for reversing letters, whole words or numbers, or for so-called mirror writing. The following symptoms indicate directional confusion:

* The dyslexic can reverse letters like ‘b’ and ‘d’, or ‘p’ and ‘q’ when reading or writing.

* He can reverse letters, reading or writing ‘n’ as ‘u’, or ‘m’ as ‘w’.

* He can read or write words like ‘chan’ for ‘on’, or ‘rat’ for ‘tar’.

* He can read or write 17 for 71.

* It may mirror writing letters, numbers and words.

A VERSION OF HEAVENLY VIEWS

Many dyslexics have trouble with order, ie seeing things in order and also remembering the sequence. Naturally this affects their ability to read and spell correctly. After all, every word consists of letters in a certain sequence. To read you need to see the letters in order, and also remember which word is represented by that sequence of letters. By simply changing the sequence of letters in ‘name’, it can become ‘menbh’ or ‘amen’.

Here are some dyslexia symptoms that indicate problems with order:

* When reading, the dyslexic can put letters in the wrong order, reading ‘feel’ as ‘left’, or ‘act’ as ‘cat’.

* He can put words in the wrong order, reading ‘is there’ for ‘yes’.

* It can leave out letters, ie read or write ‘cat’ for ‘cart’, or ‘fluich’ for ‘went’.

Dyslexics can also have difficulty remembering the order of the alphabet, sequences of numbers, for example telephone numbers, the months of the year, the seasons, and events of the day. Younger children may struggle to remember the days of the week. Some longer words cannot be repeated orally without getting the syllables in the wrong order, for example words like ‘preliminary’ and ‘statistical’.

DISCUSSION WITH THE SMALL WORDS

One frequent comment made by parents of children who struggle with their reading is, “He is so careless, he finds the big words difficult, but he makes silly mistakes on all the little ones. ” Sure, the poor reader gets stuck with difficult words, but many seem to make things worse by making mistakes on simple words they should be able to manage – such as ‘if’, ‘to’, ‘and’.

It is important to remember that this is very common, and is not a sign that a child is particularly careless or lazy.

PRECIOUS WORD

Research has shown a surprising link between abnormal development of spoken language and learning disabilities such as dyslexia. Here are just a few examples:

* A study in 1970 by Dr. Renate Valtin from Germany, based on a hundred pairs of dyslexic and normal children, found signs of backwardness in speech development and a greater frequency of speech disorders among dyslexics than among normal children.

* According to Dr. Beve Hornsby, author of “Overcoming Dyslexia,” about 60 percent of dyslexics were late talkers.

* In her book “Learning Disabilities,” author Janet Lerner says, “language problems of some kind are the basis of many learning disabilities. vocabulary acquisition, and poor understanding of spoken language.”

In most cases, the child should be able to understand simple words and commands from the age of nine months. From about a year he should be saying his first words. By two he should have a vocabulary of up to 200 words, and use simple two-word phrases such as “drink milk.” By three he should have a vocabulary of up to 900 words and be using complete sentences without missing words. He can still mix up his consonants but his speech should be understandable to foreigners. By four, he should be able to speak, although he may still make grammatical mistakes.

If a child speaks immaturely, or if he is still making unexpected grammatical mistakes in his speech when he is five years old, this should alert the parents to problems will read later. Parents should take immediate steps to improve the child’s language.

CONSIDERATIONS FOR LAWS

Some dyslexics suffer from poor handwriting skills. The word “dysgraphia” is often used to describe a problem in this area, and it is characterized by the following symptoms:

* Generally illegible writing.

* Inconsistent letter.

* Combination of upper/lower case letters or printed/cursive letters.

* Irregular letter sizes and shapes.

* Unlimited letters.

* Struggles to use writing as a communication tool.

OTHER DYSLEXIA SYMPTOMS

* Makes up a story, based on the pictures, that has no relation to the text.

* Very slow and lazy reading.

* Losing direction on a line or page while reading, missing lines or re-reading previously read lines.

* Tries to sound out the letters of the word, but then cannot say the correct word. For example, the letters ‘cat’ sound but then say ‘cold’.

* Poor reading comprehension.

* He remembers little of what he read.

* Spelling words as they sound, for example ‘rite’ for ‘right’.

* Avoid punctuation. He can leave out stops or commas and doesn’t see the need for capital letters.

* Bad copying from the table.
