End of Summer Celebration!

Summer vacation is almost over. The stores are hastily putting up the ‘Back to School’ signs and lazy children are racing to finish the summer homework that has been gathering dust until now. but hold on a minute! You still have a few weeks left in summer. Stop rushing to get it over with and celebrate the end of the summer season with your kids!

There are tons of super fun ways to end your summer with a BANG!

Here are a few:

Slumber Slammin’ Party –

Organize a themed slumber party, such as an ‘Under the Stars Sleepover’, for your children and several friends. There’s no better way to end the summer than with a party that lasts all night!

Make invitations out of black paper cut into large star shapes. Brush the stars with a thin layer of glue and sprinkle each star with glitter. Write the details of the party on the back in silver ink. Ask each child to bring a sleeping bag and a favorite stuffed animal.

Set up several tents (which can be purchased inexpensively from local tag sales or discount stores). Put up a few lanterns in the backyard and you’re ready for a night under the stars! Serve the kids hotdogs and hamburgers as a main course. And for dessert make some S’mores in the microwave!

To make 1 dozen S’mores:

24 Graham Skins

6 plain chocolate bars

12 large marshmallows

Method:

On 2 large microwave safe plates arrange 6 graham crackers per plate. Break the 6 chocolate bars in half and place 1 half on each graham cracker. Place 1 marshmallow on top of each cracker and top each with another graham cracker to complete the ‘sandwich’.

Place in the microwave, at high power, for 20 seconds until the marshmallow melts.

Cap off the evening by having all the children lie side by side in the grass as they take turns sharing their best summer memory. Send everyone off to their tent to enjoy what’s left of the sparkling summer sky!

Summer time box

A great way to keep summer memories alive is to make a ‘Summer Memories’ box. You can pick up a ready-made wooden box at your local craft or hobby shop. Have your kids collect sand and seashells on your next trip to the beach.

To decorate the box, paint it with a clear coat of clear lacquer and have your children sprinkle sand and silver glitter all over. Let it dry. Once they are dry, let your children spell their names on the box with seashells. Use a glue gun to secure the shells but make sure your child’s fingers are out of the way first!

Fill the box with all the treasures collected over the summer like that perfect stone your daughter found or a film stub from the show your son had to see.

Take out the box when your children feel stressed from school or down in the bum. Remembering summer is sure to bring a smile to anyone’s face!

Summer…all year round!

Just because summer only lasts for 3 short months, that doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy the season all year round. Change the decor in your home to reflect the summer mood. Instead of dark and dark colors, lighten things with pastel fabrics and just to cover your windows and furniture.

Instead of investing in expensive pieces of art to sit on the mantle, turn to nature to decorate your home. Large pieces of coral or colorful seashells are inexpensive but creative ways to keep the summer theme in your home.

Be creative and think out of the box! Remember that old surfboard lying all beat up in the loft? Fish it out and renew it. Hang it in a prominent place in your home to make a great conversation piece. If you don’t have a surfboard you may want to place several surfboard objects around your home. Maybe a couple of surfboard themed pillows or surfboard soap in your bathroom. Keep the waves rolling all year round!

Summer Farewell ‘Bon Voyage’ Picnic –

Alas, the summer will leave without any regrets. Say goodbye to the season in style by having a summer picnic right on the beach. Nothing, just a bag of cold sandwiches and watermelon slices from home.

Make it special by surprising your kids with a couple of empty bottles with cork stoppers. Get out some decorative paper and pens. Ask your children to write a “Message in a Bottle” letter with their name and email address. Roll up each letter and place in the bottle. Make sure the cork stoppers are tight to ensure the bottle floats and the water stays out. Let your kids throw their bottles far into the ocean.

You never know, the bottles might be floating the ocean all winter and be found just in time for next summer. Hopefully, with another child looking for a fun summer pen pal in a faraway land!

As you say goodbye to the last breath of summer just remember that it will be back again next year with its sunny days and starry nights. Remember it in your heart and it will be back before you know it!
