What Do You Want Post COVID-19 Era?

We live in a different time. Who could have predicted that we would have a global pandemic that would unfortunately lead to many lives being lost, jobs being lost and being forced to stay at home. In addition, you must wear a face mask. But that is our new reality. As the world opens up, what will be the new normal? Many people are teleworking and so many businesses are doing almost everything. It makes you think about pre-Corona life. Before Corona, many people said they didn’t have time to get out. They didn’t have time to do the things they wanted to do. One of the issues was time. Now that we have been living at home, many people have the time they said they didn’t have. Although this is a difficult time for everyone, it can be used for self-reflection. I lost my aunt who was only 40 years old just before her birthday in February. She was more like my sister when we grew up together. She used to call me her protégé. It is terrible and hard to suffer loss and be sad at a time like this. Nevertheless, I have asked my aunt to give me strength and I have chosen to use the pain for a greater purpose and to honor her by not giving up on the goals and i have dreams So it is a day to day process. Crying is a process.

As I thought about our new reality and my co-queen, I wondered how many of us are using this time to do some of the things we put on the back burner . These things could be as simple as painting, drawing, gardening, adult coloring. I am aware that this is a difficult time for all of us. But, how are you going to come out of it? What is going to be different? I’ve heard some people say it’s okay to do anything. I agree with that to the extent that you should definitely have your ‘me’ time. You should definitely be kind to yourself at times like this. This is rough for everyone. However, I do not agree that someone will do anything at all every day at these times for the next year or maybe even two years while the world tries to move forward. That’s not what I would say to my ladies. It is that lack of action or inactivity that can cause unhealthy thoughts and/or depression. Besides, nothing can change in your life from doing nothing at all. I have had days where I was less motivated and just relaxed on the couch. Yes, I am human too just like you. But I also know that I need my dreams and goals. Faith without works is dead. So whatever is going on, I have to pull myself together.

Even before COVID-19, women have always put their needs last on the list. Women have always done a lot for others before thinking about themselves. That’s how women are conditioned by society to be; Givers, caregivers, nurturers with a mind that everyone comes before you. That last part is not true. NOT everyone comes before you. No wonder so many women are unfulfilled, unhappy, in the wrong relationships, settling and so on. So now that we have been forced to stay at home, this has opened up a lot of ‘time’ for quite a few of us, to tell the truth. We can choose to do the same thing and continue to get the same results or we can choose to do something different. What’s going to be your post Corona story? I suggest you use this time to get back to yourself ladies. Prioritize your needs and wants at this time. Put yourself first. Take the first step. Your goals matter, your dreams matter, your happiness matters, YOU matter. This world would not be the same without women. So, the world wouldn’t be the same without you. As you take the time to reflect on your pre-Corona life and where you want to be post-Corona (which could be a year or two from now), here are a few things to think about:

Clarity. Do you know what you want? Hopefully you have or will take some of this down time to reflect on your true desires. I even suggest you write it down. Only 5% of society have their goals written on paper and that 5% do more than the other 95% combined. Are you happy in your life? If not, what does happiness look like to you? What are your career goals? Is the relationship you have seen? Whatever you want, you deserve it. Not what someone else has told you you should want but what you really want. It is difficult for God or your higher power (whatever you call that source) to help you if you are not clear about what you want and go through life aimlessly. Think of a GPS system. You need to type an address for it to get to your destination. You need to know where you want to go so be clear about what you want.

Apologies. We all make excuses. I have done them too. This is not about perfection. But, at some point, you have to be honest and real with yourself. In the book 6 Months to 6 Figures by Peter Voogd, he says that “one of the biggest ways to build your self-esteem is to do what you say you’re going to do . Every time you say you’re going to do something and don’t do it, your confidence goes down.” How badly do you want to change? I have heard people say they are busy. “I’m just so busy”. All right. Well, what are the visible results of all this business? If you’re busy watching soap operas all day or playing video games when you say you want to start your business, for example, that’s not the same as being productive. It’s nice to say you’re busy, it might make you feel good to say it but in reality, when you’re not really accomplishing anything and have nothing to show for it, ‘being busy’ is just an excuse. You can have excuses or you can get results.

Law of Cooperatives. Who do you spend the most time with? Something I was told by a mentor years ago, that people like people who like themselves. That’s how the birds flock together.’ Mean girls hang out with other mean girls. Who you hang around has an impact. If you have a victim mentality and don’t hold yourself accountable for anything, you won’t be in alignment with someone who does, has a victorious mentality. Do the people around you bring you up or down or make you stay still? Just because they are your friends from high school doesn’t mean they are right for you at this stage of your life. Think about whether or not your values and goals align with each other. Sometimes you get better than your girls and boy friends and that’s okay. You should not feel guilty. Some people don’t want you to move on. Boredom likes company. In the words of Dan Peña…show me your friends and I’ll show you your future. It’s that simple.

Character. Who you are follows you wherever you go. You are the common denominator. Unfortunately society has made women think that they have to compete with other women. If it’s in you to always be jealous and envious of other women, that will show wherever you go because it’s part of who you are. If you are into being handmade and small, that will follow you wherever you go. You can only hide who you really are for so long. You are who you choose to be. We are all beautiful imperfect creatures of God. But we all have issues. We all have things we can improve too. I believe that there is something greater than us that knows the truth. And the truth of who you are. You know what they say… the truth will come out. Think about who you say you are and what your actions reflect. Are they equal? Character goes a long way.
