Street Children, Their Vulnerability and Sustainability

Street children are those who are hopeless, frustrated and homeless and who live their lives irregularly, here and there, without having any particular place to stay. They have no basic rights like food, shelter and clothing to survive on earth. He somehow runs his life based on the kindness of people. They live hand to mouth. He goes through an aimless life like a ship without a radar. They have no rights to education and healthcare due to their helplessness due to their non-specific identity of the society.

Street children have no idea about their future. They have no specific job. They are usually located next to slums, rivers, markets, railway stations and around airports. Sometimes they are found in the middle of the city begging and asking for food or money, sometimes in the name of god or sometimes expressing their sad attitude towards their physical disability. They are found sleeping at night on a road corner in squalid conditions. Sometimes they are caught crying to get on the bus to beg from person to person if they are good hearted they can give some money. They make every effort to somehow survive on Earth. Sometimes they fall by accident while moving back and forth on the streets. They don’t know the rules of the road, even if they don’t cross the zebra crossing. Because of this, they are occasionally found to be badly injured by humans as they cross the roads. In many cases, they are caught crying and screaming because of the pain in their physical organs. Law enforcement sometimes picks them up in their vans and drops their bodies at health centers. Because street children do not have the ability to pay doctors’ fees, doctors ignore them. And not take care of them by providing the necessary aids. Such street children radiate as motherless children and orphans. In many cases, the original parents abandon them due to the need for sufficient resources to feed and raise them. Many religious people can sometimes take them to an orphanage or any missionary rehabilitation center. Street children grow up here, grow up and are considered citizens of the nation. This happens in rare cases. Street children are largely helpless and live a very distorted life. They are sometimes caught stealing goods from shops, markets and even people’s homes. Sometimes they are found hiding from the police, sometimes they are arrested and sentenced to prison. In this way he spends his life in prison. In real life, if caught by civilians, they are immorally tortured mentally and physically. Even if they are found picking pockets or snatching mobile phones or wristwatches, they are caught by agitated people and beaten mercilessly. Subsequently, if found alive, they are sent to the local police station for further prosecution against pickpocketing and theft. Their lives at night are very heartbreaking because they have no shelter to sleep at night; they have to face rains and any natural calamity without getting any means of survival.

Street children must be rehabilitated as they can be treated as the future backbone of the nation. In this regard, the society and the government should proceed to provide the necessary ways and means so that they can raise their heads in the healthy life of the society in the bright light of day. The government should rush to settle them by providing food, shelter and clothing. Not only that, they should provide support for education and health care. The government can also make plans to set up rehabilitation centers in various divisions, districts and other sectors at a high level. A monitoring cell should be established to identify the number of street children. Street children can be identified by assigning an index number. The centers concerned should specify their basic needs such as food, shelter and clothing, and other needs such as education and health services; this will be handled on behalf of the contracting parties, who will allocate funds for this purpose. Rehabilitation centers must provide logistical support so that street children can raise their heads like other good citizens of the country. We are aware that street children are scattered here and there. Every time they are mentally tortured and physically harmed by people who find them involved in socially immoral activities. Even the government can set up refund centers to adjust their reliefs in their lives. If we look around the world, we will find that there are an unlimited number of institutions and rehabilitation centers where street children develop mentally and physically. In such institutions, the formation of children’s character is prioritized, and in any further education equal importance is given to both moral and academic studies. It is our responsibility to find street children and send them to rehabilitation centers where they would get better treatment. We too can send them to an orphanage where the children are provided with food, shelter and clothing with better health care and education. We should not be rude to them, rather we should be kind so that they are mentally and physically developed to support their standard of living. It is very unfortunate that street children have a miserable life; there are many noble people who have established various missionary schools, hospitals and child correction centers. Madam Tereza was one of the personalities who founded more than four thousand centers. In these centers, children from different countries and from all corners of the world, even from other parts outside India, are educated and taught good manners. They assert themselves and are enlightened in the field of moral and spiritual education.

There is no denying the fact, money is lost and nothing is lost. Health is lost, something is lost. But character is lost, then all is lost. We should consider street children as our children and as such we should not neglect them under any circumstances. In our current society, we should emphasize them in shaping their moral character. Due to this, modern society is polluted due to lack of proper guidance from parents and government. Our children are also polluted by an unequal education system, which has recently prevailed only among street children.
