Hit Girl’s "Ninja" Internet Marketing Secret

After watching the recently released movie “Kick Ass” for the second time, I noticed a glaring internet marketing secret that almost anyone can use. It’s also really stupid. Take a look at this:

There is a scene towards the end of the movie where the character Hit Girl (an 11-year-old ninja girl who steals the show) wants to infiltrate the mafia headquarters. It is late and the henchmen are expecting an attack from the mysterious person who killed several of them earlier.

In other words, they are alert. With the weapons out and the building “locked” down. So what does he do? Show up in her superhero costume with guns? Not quite. Instead, wearing plain “civilian” clothes, she knocks on the glass door of the building, pretends to be lost, and asks to use the phone.

Who can say no to that?

So they let her in and, well… it’s not pretty from there.

Anyway, here’s the point:

Hit Girl did EXACTLY what smart internet marketers do. No… I’m not talking about scamming someone… but about slipping past the natural “sales protections” of your prospects.

We ALL have them too. Even potential customers who want to be sold to are on alert. It has to be (for survival purposes).

Chances are, they’ve recently been lied to, cheated, or conned by someone they trust—including their bankers, bosses, investment advisors, the government, and so on.

So those sales defenses are at full power. And you know what?

The best way to slip past these defenses is to do the opposite of what they expect (ie NOT going in “guns blazing”) and instead… listen to them. Show them respect in your ads. Qualify them in your marketing. (Maybe they DON’T even need your product, right?) And show them you really care.

Hey, maybe that’s not the guru way.

But it works like nobody’s business.
