The Truman Show Starring Jim Carrey and Ed Harris

Jim Carrey plays Truman Burbank alongside Ed Harris (Christof) and Laura Linney (Meryl Burbank) in The Truman Show. The film centers on Truman Burbank, who is the star of his own reality TV show, but the catch is that he doesn’t know he’s being filmed. Truman’s life has been broadcast to millions of loyal viewers since the day he was born. The cast and crew of Truman’s reality show work hard to convince him otherwise, as the risk of Truman leaving the studio is too great. It doesn’t take long for Truman to realize that there are motivations behind his friends and family not wanting him to leave. His suspicions increase when he discovers that his surroundings are a little more predictable than they should be. He discovers cinematic lighting falling from the sky, revealing the buildings in the city center to be just facades and that there are hidden cameras everywhere.

Truman eventually comes to the conclusion that his freedom is more important than his friends and families wanting him to stay. The ending of this movie is brilliant and I won’t give up on it, but it’s worth the wait.

The Truman Show, which came out right before the reality TV boom, is an interesting dialogue about where it’s headed. The Truman Show was written by the talented Andrew Niccol (The Terminal, Gattaca) and directed by Peter Weir (Dead Poets Society). The two did an amazing job of telling a great story while also giving the audience something to think about as they left the theater.

The Truman Show was well represented in terms of awards, receiving three Academy Award nominations; Best Supporting Actor (Ed Harris), Best Director (Peter Weir) and Best Screenplay, Screenplay (Andrew Niccol). Jim Carrey and Ed Harris also won Golden Globes for their performance in the film.
