One Woman’s Story of How Her Smile Increased Her Confidence
A high level of trust is essential for someone who takes pride in being involved in various community organizations. Especially when that involvement involves speaking to groups large and small soliciting donations for many non-profit organizations.
That’s the case for Teresa Bock, assistant vice president at Wells Fargo Bank’s Olympus Hills Office in Salt Lake City. Not only is trust key to her success in all the community work she does, it’s essential in her professional position as well.
When one meets Teresa for the first time, one encounters a woman who is always smiling. It wasn’t always like that. Before marrying media personality Tom Bock, Teresa overcame numerous obstacles in her life.
At the age of seven, Teresa became completely deaf in her right ear due to Scarlet Fever. During the same period, she lost most of the hearing in her left ear. Teresa has mastered her communication skills so beautifully that most people wouldn’t even know she was a master lip reader unless she told them.
Another obstacle Tereza overcame was her struggle to make ends meet with two young children from a previous marriage. With food and shelter as a priority, many things were put on the back burner until they became absolutely necessary. Things like dentist visits. During these challenging times, dental visits were strictly for emergency and maintenance purposes. Although Teresa secretly longed for a smile that would turn heads, with the incredible financial pressures of being a single mother, she wondered if a beautiful smile would ever be within her reach.
With a strong desire to succeed, Teresa began her career in banking in 1987 as a teller. Teresa took on her career challenges with the same enthusiasm she took on her physical challenges and found opportunities to advance in the banking industry as well as continue her involvement with non-profit organizations. During her employment, she learned that Wells Fargo has an ongoing commitment to giving back to the community. When Teresa saw an opportunity to develop a career and contribute to her community, she knew she had found the perfect match for her passions in life.
During this time she met Tom Bock. What started as two single parents enjoying each other’s company blossomed into love and marriage. They married in 2000 and raised a family of five children and eight grandchildren. A strong bond for their marriage is the love and respect for their individual interests and the fact that both Tom and Teresa are actively involved in rewarding the community.
Not content to give her energy to one organization, Teresa has been involved with Ballet West, Ririe-Woodbury Dance Company, Living Planet Aquarium, Audiologist Association, NAWBO (National Association of Women Business Owners), and various Chamber of Commerce organizations. She strongly believes that the ability to communicate in both one-on-one situations and in public is critical to achieving the best result when it comes to raising money for an organization.
She wasn’t one to give up on her dreams, but she also believed that a better smile would directly affect her confidence level. Although she had a desire to have her smile cosmetically enhanced, cost was still a big consideration.
What first sparked Teresa’s interest in smile makeovers were pictures of people who didn’t have obvious black lines near their gums. She also had a distinct taste of aluminum in her mouth. Over the years at countless dentists, not one of them ever took the time to explain what it was all about. That is, until she was introduced to Dr. Scott Kiser.
Teresa was referred to Dr. Kiser by a friend. She was so confident in his recommendations that she didn’t bother with a second opinion even though he recommended it. She knew he was fair and would do the right thing.
When Teresa decided to invest in her smile, Dr. Kiser showed her how to do it. He helped her find the best way to move forward and help her achieve her dream. Not only did Dr. Kiser address all of Teresa’s questions and concerns about her dental care, he showed her that with a good plan, her dream of a beautiful smile is within reach.
As with many successes in Teresa’s life, she had to develop a plan of action to determine how to afford what she wanted. One of the first things she did was set priorities. First, she identified where she could cut expenses. Second, she participated in the Wells Fargo Healthcare expense account. The program allows you to defer part of your pay for various medical expenses. Depending on the program, the money can be used for vision, medical and/or dental fees. These programs allow you to set aside a certain pre-tax dollar amount to be used for unreimbursed health care expenses. Many employers now offer health care spending programs in their employee benefits packages.
“If someone thinks they can’t afford it, they have to ask themselves if they can really afford not to do it. It can change someone’s life in a way they never dreamed possible,” Tereza beams. “There are always ways to figure out how to afford something if it becomes a big enough priority.”
Teresa will be the first to tell you that once she decided to move forward, things seemed to magically fall into place. She also tells anyone who cares to know that her Smile Makeover is one of the best investments she’s ever made.
As she suspected, once she had a better smile, her confidence increased incredibly. She found that she was more willing to smile when talking to people, and any insecurities she had about what people thought of her smile completely disappeared. She also found that her confidence increased greatly when speaking to groups.
Tereza was so pleased with her results that she always refers people to Dr. Kiser. Many of Teresa and Tom Bock’s friends are patients of Dr. Kiser.
Although she didn’t always realize the importance of a great dental care provider, today she will be the first to admit that you need to find someone you can trust. Someone who really cares about patients and won’t rush an appointment.
“When I visit Dr. Kiser, I feel like I’m the only person who matters. And when it comes to my dental care, that’s how it should be. I always didn’t believe that, but today I know that I deserve such treatment.’
Tereza also appreciates the commitment and care of the Smiles dental staff. Tereza knows that their employees are the best. With state-of-the-art equipment and decor that is exceptionally welcoming, he knows that Dr. Kiser has invested in creating an atmosphere that even the most demanding tastes will appreciate.
“They really care about each patient. The first meeting is with Vicki. Whether meeting Vicki on the phone or in the office, it’s an incredibly positive experience. Vicki’s can-do attitude adds to the overall vibe that is unmatched.”
“There are people in my life who never knew me before I had myself transformed into a smile. Shock is often the reaction I get when they look at the before and after pictures. Just to see their reaction made me realize how much of an investment Dr.’s work was. Kiser. Without a doubt, this is one of the best investments I have ever made. I will reap the benefits for years to come. It’s such a great feeling when someone comments on what a beautiful smile I have. I can’t begin to tell you what it has done to improve the quality of my life.”
“To Dr. Kiser and his entire team, I thank you from the bottom of my heart.
