What do you see – Kalanjali was once known only for its arts and crafts. But apart from home decoration stuff, you can see a lot of sarees and clothing materials here. In any case, before visiting this store, you better decide exactly what you want to buy. This is because once you walk in, you will be overwhelmed by just looking at the vast collection of apparel, home decor items, handlooms and the like.
What you get – Kalanjali has two sections, fancy clothes section and handloom section. The large elegant air-conditioned clothing section again has separate sections for children’s, men’s and of course women’s clothing (most of the space). And right next to the children’s section is the children’s area, where the little ones can have fun while their moms splurge. The area is small but serves the purpose.
In fact, the variety of children’s clothing here is also huge. Well designed dresses, ghaghras, skirts, western wear, salwar suits, three piece suits with stones, jeans, kurta pajamas and sherwanis with stoles are available here. An embroidered and stone studded three-piece suit for a 5-6 year old costs a little over Rs. 13,000 here.
Men can see popular brands like Wills, Louis Philippe, Indian Terrain, Blackberry, Pepper and Levi’s here, apart from embroidered kurta pajamas and sherwanis. As for the women’s collection, they have salwar suits (some are really loud and bright), chiffon and silk, jute skirts with lovely paintings all over (Rs 650 and up), kurtis and ghaghras. Ritu Kumar designer wear is also available here with prices going up to Rs. 60,000.
In the handloom section here we have clothing materials in Jaipur and Orissa Cotton, Mangalgiri, Kalamkari and Pochampalli. Kurtis, dupattas, cotton ghaghras and sarees are available here. You can even buy casual and party wear kurtas (above Rs 1,200 but worth a look), sherwanis and dhotis.
Head upstairs and you’ll see a vast collection of arts and crafts, from handmade rosewood dining tables (over Rs 2,000), miniature temples (mandirs), swings and sofa sets to paintings, ceramics (check out the exclusive marble pieces), metalwork and a huge 10 feet wooden carving of Lord Venkateshwara.
Judgment – If you have a wedding at home, this place is worth a try, especially for women. Must see party wear kurtas. And among the art objects, they have some exclusive ones made of marble.
