“I don’t like your attitude” shouted my high school teacher when I was kicked out of the classroom and asked to appear before the principal. He gave me a complete makeover and I vowed to improve my attitude towards school from then on.

The right attitude or state of mind is essential for anyone speaking or training in public. Here are six tips on how.

Remove all worries

Remove all worries from your head. We all have some kind of baggage in our heads. A long-standing argument with a partner, a serious mistake you made yesterday, or the loss of a deal can affect your mood. The trick is to adopt mindfulness and clear your head so you can focus on the present.

A favorite Dandy Warhol number from the turn of the last century is about having a trap in the back of my head. I use this metaphor to clear all the thoughts that are weighing me down before performing on stage. It works.

Music anchors

On the subject of Dandy Warhol, let’s focus on music and its effect on your mood. I’m listening to my State Changer playlist on my phone as I write this. This playlist contains several songs, tunes and songs from my collection, each of which controls and influences my state of mind. I’m 33,000 feet above the Himalayas after a presentation in Bangladesh and I just thought I’d pump up some energy, so I’m listening to my playlist.

Physical comfort

He asked me to lie down on the couch and he started taking my blood pressure. I must admit I was a bit nervous at the time, you see I’m a big baby. After the first measurement, he calmed me down, telling me that there was no way he could submit this blood pressure to the insurance company and they would deny my application.

I mean, how can I relax? I remembered breathing. Inhale deeply and exhale very slowly, pull slowly. I did this for one minute and he took my blood pressure again. “It’s better, much more normal”

I breathed a sigh of relief.

So if you’re a little nervous and your blood pressure is rising, doing a breathing technique for a few minutes before you go on stage will calm you down, lower your heart rate and make you more relaxed. – the country of the presenter.

Enter the room

The goal here is to become one with the group. You’ll do this as the conversation progresses, but adjust your peripheral vision to get the position right at the start. Many drivers will use their foveal vision and focus on a specific spot; it has no value to become one with the room. Instead, pick a spot, but consciously enhance your peripheral capabilities by focusing on everything around you. This trains your brain to use your peripheral vision when you start speaking, taking in the entire audience.

Usually someone introduces me on stage – it takes about 20 seconds. I usually stand to the side behind the introducer, ready to pounce, but when she introduces me, I focus on her but let my peripheral vision work its magic, taking in the entire room and every member of the audience I can.

When I start my speech, my brain is in peripheral mode, which allows me to become one with them. I then relax the peripheral and go foveal, making eye contact with as many people as possible. The eyes are the windows to the soul, let’s never forget that.

By the way, a little trade secret for you. Focusing on your peripheral vision frees you from nerves. Not many people know this.

Take control of the room

The bigger the audience, the more applause you’ll get after your introduction and the more effort you’ll want to make to gain control. Here’s how to do it:
